This double portrait is inspired by a relationship that lived more in suggestion than truth.
The female figure is a self-portrait of me at age 24. The man is not painted in literal likeness — his identity intentionally obscured to reflect the private nature of the bond.
The covered gaze suggests the limits of knowing another, when a relationship exists within constraints.
Both serious and lightly self-aware, the work holds energy of early adulthood where risk-taking and secrecy feels electric, and where naivety can be mistaken for depth. It is a nod to impulsive, misguided judgements of youth.
